For the Garanimals challenge, I made this birthday card. It uses the shaving cream tutorial from Stars and Stamps. My friend actually made the paper when she was here visiting and she left it for me to use to make cards. How sweet of her!
This card is actually going to my cousin's daughter who will turn 2 on Thursday, but I plan to make a few others without the number 2 on the balloons so anyone could use them.

Scrap to Treasure Swaps
A few weeks (months?) ago, a swapping page for OWH was started on FB. I am not a huge swapper since I have almost 10 times more than what I need of most things, but I have participated in two swaps when things sounded good or when I had something to share that someone else wanted. People always want to send something in return (which I understand), so even if I'm hoping to downsize some things, swaps won't make that happen.
Here, I am showing off some things that Karen G. sent me about a month ago. She sent me great Debbie Mumm Christmas papers and I used all of those up right away. They're pictured in a previous post. She also sent a pack of four cross embellishments and I knew I wanted to make this design, but I had to wait until I got the Swiss Dots folder. It was getting hard to find in stores, even at regular price, so when I had a coupon for AC Moore and it was in stock, I snatched the last one.
I apologize for this card's rotation. IPhoto has been giving me fits recently and I'm not motivated to upload the pic again to straighten it. Karen sent me the alphabet stamps. We'll be making 23 more of these at my card party on Friday night.
Next, I'll have to get cracking on the label die cuts that Laura S. sent me. They're beautiful, so I'm saving them for just the right card.

A little more marble paper action
This tutorial was dangerously good! I got into it more than I thought I would and might even classify this as me getting carried away. It's my new pinwheel, if you know what I mean. :)
One of the color combos I did was an attempt at fall colors. I thought it looked much more like camo with orange. If I knew any hunters well enough to send them cards or had any images, I could make some cards like that. I have plenty of students who hunt, but no close friends or family members. I decided that the paper could also be perfect for Halloween. So, here's another use of the shaving cream technique. The stamps are both Studio G from last year and I colored with Bic markers.
Here's a thinking of you card I made using four different SU greens (Green Galore, Glorious Green, Gable Green, and Garden Green). The cardstock is from DCWV and I used my trusty Nestabilities.
If you haven't tried this technique yet, grab a can of shaving cream from the bathroom, your liquid re-inkers, some plain cardstock (I cut mine to the size of a card front), a plate or tray, a scraper, and a protected work surface. Gloves would also be handy if you're going to be in public afterwards because the ink will stain your hands. I did not do this, but the ink came off when I showered, so fear not if you don't have disposable gloves. Start to finish, give yourself 30-45 minutes depending on how many papers you want to do. It's a lot of fun and I think older children (maybe 8 and up) would love to help with this! It may sound like a waste of shaving cream, but if you plan your colors right, you can get a lot of mileage out of it. (I made over 30 card fronts with one 9x9 tray filled about an inch thick.) Start with shades of the same color and make some papers. Then you can mix the shaving cream well and get a light solid color. Add new reinkers in colors that coordinate with the pale shade and you'll be able to make twice as many sheets with the tray of cream. Today I started with 4 shades of green, mixed and got light green, then added green, orange, and brown (above), then mixed and got a pale greenish brown, then added reds, green, and brown for the paper on the Christmas cards in my last post. I never replaced the shaving cream.
One added benefit- it's like perfumed stationery! The shaving cream I bought has a very light scent and the cards now smell nice, too. :)

Marble paper part 2
Well, that shaving cream tutorial I mentioned in my last post got me hooked. I made some more sheets of marbleized paper today, using greens and coordinating colors. It's nice to have more to do with my SU refills than just refill the ink pads when they get a bit dry.
Here are some more cards featuring the fancy papers I made. I really love how the pink and purple paper from yesterday turned out. The stamp is from SU (Sweet Serendipity) and the ink is Lilac Lace, a retired SU color.
The green and red paper was intended for Christmas cards. I have Christmas paper, but I don't find what I have inspiring to work with. Christmas cards are a struggle for me. I really like this one and I think I will try to replicate the background paper enough times to make my own Christmas cards with this design.
In person, I couldn't tell whether the tree looked better colored or plain. It's wonderful how looking at a photograph often clears up this kind of question for me. I'm going to go color the other tree now. I think it looks much better colored.

Shaving cream on cards?
Howdy! I've been on a bit of a blogging decline recently because we've been back to school for two weeks and I've been busy with my real job. If only card making could be my real job!
On Tuesday, Paula offered a tutorial on OWH Stars and Stamps on using shaving cream to make marbleized paper. She warned it was messy, and she was right! I managed to pretty well dye my hands blue and had quite a mess on my kitchen table. On the plus side, the results were cool and my hands smell good!
I made 24 card-front sized pieces of marbleized paper. I started by using three shades of SU blue re-inkers. When I had used up the ink, I just mixed the remaining shaving cream really well to make it light blue and then used purples and pinks on top, so those papers all had a light blue background. It was a good way to get some extra mileage out of the shaving cream. I had been holding onto a clear plastic box from Rocher candies for months, with the knowledge that it would come in handy for some project. It was the perfect tray for the shaving cream. For the scraper, I used a short plastic ruler, which worked really well! I used a straw to drag the pattern in the shaving cream. Next time, I will cover more of my table so I can do even more paper and have room to lay it all out.
The first card I made from it is not for OWH. It's for a friend who just announced her engagement. I'm so thrilled for her and her fiance and cannot wait for the wedding!
