Using up some DCWV

I don't really like this paper all that much, but I made a pile of cards from it.  I wonder if I don't use my least favorite papers just for the sake of the challenge!  

This one could benefit from a sentiment or some other embellishment on the blue.  I haven't decided yet what I should add.

Carol's Rebel Challenge- Hoarder's Anonymous

What paper crafter doesn't have a stash of hoarded items "too pretty" to be used?  I have been getting better about using my favorite stuff and not saving it since I realize I have more paper than I'll ever use.  Carol's challenged us to make a card with things we've hoarded in the VCMP- Rebel Challenge. 

The patterned paper I used on this card is paste paper I made in college.  About a year ago, I finally started using my paste paper stash, one sheet at a time.  I've used four or five sheets up and have about ten left.  I remember having a great time making the paper with my roommate and some other friends from our dorm at the Lit House one Saturday.  Our good time came to a bit of a halt when Mike, the master printer teaching the class, sliced his finger badly on the paper cutter.  We offered to help him get to the hospital, but he wouldn't accept our help and drove himself around the corner to the emergency room.  Several hours later, as we were cleaning up, he was back to see how we were doing and show off his stitches.

The other items on the card have been in my collection at least several months.  The bee stamp is one of the first clear stamps I bought in 2008.  It's colored with Copics and punched with some of my earliest paper punches.  The eyelets are a few years old, too.   The bottom of the banner is punched with a MS punch I bought last fall and haven't used too often.  The sentiment was also purchased last summer and has become one of my favorites.  The ribbons are Michael's Halloween ribbons from last year's clearance. 

This challenge was great because I was able to pull out some materials I hadn't used in a while and give them some attention!  Thanks, Carol, for hosting an inspiring challenge.

Sketch #7

Using nothing but scraps in my scrap bin, I whipped up this card from OWH Sketch #7. I love a scrap card! I didn't want to turn the sketch (I was being stubborn), but I also didn't have a single vertical sentiment, so I had to make one from alphabet stamps. If I use this sketch again, I will use the strips as a background and place an image on it or a horizontal strip across with a sentiment.

CASEd from Sarah

I spotted this sketch on Sarah's card earlier today and had to try it out pronto!

I used a Unity wood mounted tree stamp (Bauble Tree) and Unity's itty bitty "hello my friend." The patterned paper by Pebbles Inc is a remarkable match to the stamp. The cuts were made with Nestabilities. Gems and ribbon from stash.

I'm so happy to have my tutorial posted on OWH Stars and Stamps blog today. What a thrill! If you've come from there, thanks for coming to check out my blog. I love having visitors! If you haven't been to Stars and Stamps yet, please take a moment to go check out my tutorial on woven hearts.

Here is another card to share using the same heart technique as in the tutorial. For this card, I used the smaller size heart. I finished the card with matstack papers from K & Co's Americana line, a paper flower from Making Memories, a brad from Colorbok, ribbon from Offray, and a sentiment stamp from Studio G.



Here are two other cards I made for OWH that both use the same layout. The top card uses the "Performance" matstack from DCWV. I think it's the most masculine love card I've ever managed to make.


The patterned paper on this card is from an old DCWV Spring Stack (from 2009, I believe).

I love DCWV's Green Tea stack. I know it's one stack I'll actually finish at some point! I used all of the small Prima flowers from the bottle of blue flowers I got recently. Now, it'll be time to use the larger ones.

Emboss Resist

I had such a nice time following the OWH Stars and Stamps CAS Skip today that I had to make some cards.

These two blogs (Lisa's here) and (Patricia's here) inspired this card.

I used a pre-made card base with matching envelope, added a strip of white Swiss Dots cardstock done with the Cuttlebug, and used the emboss resist technique to create the focal point. The flower stamp is from Anna Griffin and the sentiment is from Hampton Arts. I really enjoyed playing around with emboss resist and can see doing more in the future. :)
